Condition Grading Guide

Condition Grading Guide

At American Industrial Parts Group, we believe buyers should know exactly what they're getting before they order. Every product in our catalog is assigned a condition grade that accurately represents its history, packaging status, and functional state. This guide explains what each grade means and what you can expect when your order arrives.

New / New in Box (NIB)

What it means: The part is unused, has never been installed, and is in its original manufacturer packaging. It is in the same condition as it left the factory.

Packaging: Original box, bag, or sealed packaging. May include original documentation, accessories, or mounting hardware as supplied by the manufacturer.

Inspection: Visually inspected for packaging integrity and part number verification.

Best for: Applications where original packaging documentation is required, or where you want the closest equivalent to buying direct from a distributor at a lower price point.

Note: Even New in Box parts sourced from surplus channels do not carry the original manufacturer warranty. All parts are covered under AIPG's warranty.

New Surplus

What it means: The part is unused and has never been installed, but may not have its original packaging. New surplus parts typically come from facility overstock, cancelled projects, or storeroom cleanouts where components were purchased but never put into service.

Packaging: Original packaging may or may not be present. Parts may be in generic packaging, poly bags, or no packaging at all. The part itself is in unused condition.

Inspection: Visually inspected for unused condition, part number verification, and absence of installation marks or wear.

Best for: Cost-conscious buyers who need a functionally new part but don't require original packaging. New surplus parts offer significant savings over new in box pricing with the same functional expectation.

Used / Tested

What it means: The part has been previously installed and operated in a production or commercial environment. It has been removed from service, inspected, and verified to be in working condition.

Packaging: No original packaging. Parts are carefully packaged for safe shipment.

Inspection: Inspected for physical condition, correct part number, and functional integrity. Used parts are evaluated prior to listing and any known cosmetic wear or markings are noted in the product description.

Best for: Maintenance and repair applications where cost savings are a priority and the part's prior service history is acceptable. Used parts are ideal for keeping legacy and discontinued equipment running at a fraction of the cost of new alternatives.

Note: Cosmetic wear such as scuffs, scratches, wire markings, or label residue is normal on used parts and does not affect functionality. Any functional concerns are noted in the listing.

Our Warranty

All parts sold by American Industrial Parts Group — regardless of condition grade — are covered under our warranty. If a part you receive is not as described or does not function as expected, contact us and we will resolve it. Manufacturer warranties are not transferred with surplus or secondary market parts; AIPG's warranty covers our sold inventory.
