DESCRIPTION
Motorola 2N5302 NPN silicon power transistor in a TO-3 metal package. Motorola specifies this device for power amplifier and switching circuit applications.

Maximum ratings include 60 V collector-emitter voltage, 30 A continuous collector current, and 200 W power dissipation with the case maintained at 25°C. These are individual maximum limits; permissible operation depends on the safe operating area, temperature, and cooling.

The photographed transistor carries the Motorola logo, part number 2N5302, and separate marking “8339.” The underside has emitter and base identification beside the two leads; the metal case forms the collector connection.

New condition. Photos show surface scratches and discoloration on the metal housing. Electrical test results have not been provided. Includes one transistor as pictured.

COMPATIBILITY & CROSS-REFERENCE
Direct replacement for the 2N5302. It is the 60 V member of the 2N5301 to 2N5303 NPN family: the 2N5301 is rated 40 V and 30 A, and the 2N5303 is rated 80 V and 20 A. The complementary PNP device is the 2N4399 (60 V, 30 A, 200 W) for push-pull output stages. Confirm voltage, current, safe operating area and heatsink insulation against the original circuit before substituting.

Q&A
Q: What are the 2N5302's main ratings? A: NPN, 60 V, 30 A continuous, 200 W at 25°C case, TO-3.
Q: What is the PNP complement? A: The 2N4399.
Q: Which terminal is the case? A: The case is the collector; the two pins are the base and emitter.
Q: How many are included? A: One.
