DESCRIPTION
The National Semiconductor LM322N is a precision timer in a 14-pin plastic DIP. It runs from unregulated supplies of 4.5 V to 40 V and produces timing periods from microseconds to hours. Its floating-transistor output can drive loads up to 40 V and 50 mA, referred either to ground or to the supply. An internal 3.15 V regulated reference can supply up to 5 mA to external circuitry.

Features:
Timing periods from microseconds to hours
Operates from 4.5 V to 40 V supplies
Floating transistor output with internal current limiting: 40 V, 50 mA
Internal regulated 3.15 V reference, up to 5 mA available externally
Voltage-controllable timing period (VADJ)
Logic input to reverse the output sense, plus a boost function
Very low comparator input current: 0.3 nA typical
Low timing drift: 0.003%/°C typical timing-ratio temperature coefficient
Commercial temperature range: 0°C to +70°C
Markings: National Semiconductor "NS" logo, "/629" and "LM322N"
Date code 629: 1976, week 29
Unused; light handling marks on the leads

Compatibility:
Direct replacement for the National Semiconductor LM322N. It is electrically identical to the LM122, which is the wider-temperature-range version in a metal can. The 8-pin LM3905 is a simplified version that drops the boost and VADJ functions.

Q&A
Q: What is the LM322 used for?
A: It is a precision timer for delays and timing periods from microseconds to hours. It runs from unregulated 4.5–40 V supplies and drives loads of up to 50 mA directly.
Q: How is it different from the LM122?
A: Per National, the LM322 is electrically identical to the LM122 but is specified over 0°C to +70°C.
Q: When was it made?
A: The date code 629 indicates 1976, week 29.
